BALTIC HEALING. A documentary film followed by a film discussion
In the Latvian Pirts (traditional sauna/steam bath), an ancient European healing tradition has survived to the present day. It is based on herbal medicine and is connected to nature and the festivals of the year.
BALTIC HEALING was filmed in June 2023 during the summer solstice celebrations. The documentary portrays four healers who work in the Pirts. The Pirts ritual is compared to returning to the womb and subsequent rebirth. During the ritual, the healers use flowers, medicinal herbs, bundles of birch branches, herbal body scrubs, massages, ancient chants… and fly agarics (Amanita muscaria)… to reconnect their patients with their body and soul.
Because that is healing: returning to our true self.

Matriarchal knowledge on YouTube – a journey that will soon last five years
In 2020, there was suddenly a lot of time to reflect on what is actually important – and that’s how the YouTube channel Matriwissen was born. Because knowledge of matriarchies not only gives us a perspective on a real alternative to our current political and social system: it also enables us to see through the patriarchal structures within us and around us. Recognize, name, heal! That’s what I’m all about.
On this path, I have conducted numerous interviews, with many women and some men, and have created a colorful cornucopia of matriarchal knowledge that is freely available.
In addition to presenting film examples, I also talk about my experiences on this journey and invite you to talk!
I look forward to meeting you in person!

Association MatriaVal e.V.
The association MatriaVal e.V. is concerned with matriarchal societies and matriarchal values. The Val in the association’s name comes from val=value (value).
Matriarchal societies are societies in balance, they are oriented towards nature, peaceful in all areas, women and men respect each other and old age is highly respected. Mothers are at the centre and the maternal principle of nurturing and caring is the basis for the entire social structure. Numerous matriarchal societies exist worldwide.
Motherland letters
The motherland letters come to women four times a year: in spring, summer, autumn and winter.
Reports and stories are told about matriarchies around the world and all the different activities, projects and experiences that bring matriarchal elements into our everyday lives, be it in ourselves, in the family or in public spaces.
Motherland (documentary film)
The home of the Minangkabau is in West Sumatra, Indonesia. With several million members, they form the largest matriarchal society in the world. They live according to Adat, the maternal natural law – in peaceful coexistence with Islam. House, farm and land are in the hands of women. The film tells of everyday life from the perspective of 33-year-old Yelfia Susanti, who knows how to ensure balance and a good life for everyone with her large clan.
A film by Uschi Madeisky, Dagmar Margotsdotter, Yelfia Susanti
Where the free women live (documentary film)
The Mosuo people live in the south of China, around Lake Lugu. The Mosuo are known for their harmonious coexistence. There is no jealousy, no violence and no war. They do not know opposites such as “poor” and “rich”. Striving for power is foreign to them. They are considered to be very content and happy people. The entire social coexistence is based on the living environment of women and children. Men are the caring supporters.

«The Magic Lamp»
A magician is determined to pull a magic lamp out of the earth. But the doer / maker / macho reaches his limits. Only a so-called good-for-nothing like Aladdin is able to retrieve the magic lamp: Aladdin has retained the childlike openness to be able to wonder and be enchanted. Aladdin does not encounter the magic of making and machines in the earth (the latter three words are related in terms of etymology), but the magic of being touched and gripped. He learns about love. The genie of the lamp has a lot to say to the modern world.

Evelien van Leeuwen and Celine van Mastrigt – Het Nieuwe Matriarchaat
The Oracle is the place of the Deep Waters where we come when we attend to that which is inside of us and when we follow what wants to come through.

Evelien van Leeuwen
Evelien van Leeuwen (1984), psychologist, writer and medicinewoman of dreams, has studied the inner oracle, The Hollow Bone medicine and how to connect to the oracular consciousness for more than a decade now. Her book ”The Nightcat from the North” is an initiatory story of how, with the help of the mythical being of the Nightcat, this connection to the oracle is made, why it is healing and what this reclaiming of our feminine oracular traditions will mean for the restoration of ”the web of life”. Her work as a psychologist and medicine woman is mainly focused on working with dreams and the wisdom of the body in the healing of (intergenerational) trauma and the motherwound (among others caused by patriarchy).
www.hetnieuwematriarchaat.nl
Celine van Mastrigt
Celine van Mastrigt (1983), psychotherapist and bonding psychotherapist, will be bringing her lineage of Queros Medicinal Wisdom that is mainly focused on ´´prayer and respect to all living energy, as a way of healing ourselves and our connection to the Great Mother Earth‘‘. For her the most important aspect of her healing work is about Love and Gratitude, about becoming conscious of the Three Worlds and to reconnect to the sacred wisdom of the body, which is embedded in these worlds. www.sameninverbinding.nl
The Council of Women – The Hollow Bone Medicine
This ceremony has been reclaimed by us through the reconnection to our ancestor: The Nightcat from the North. The ceremony itself is an invitation to come into communion with the Deep Feminine by attending to the Deep Waters: which is the Oracle within. It is a combination of circlework by attending the Oracle as a group and subsequently in giving respect, love and gratitude in honour of the Great Mother. It aims towards restoring our oracular tradition by stepping into the deep feminine role as ‘The Hollow Bone‘.
The Oracle is the place of the Deep Waters where we come «when we attend to that which is inside of us and when we follow what wants to come through». The sacred act of attending the Oracle basically is The Hollow Bone Medicine. It is through the deep feminine state that we are able to connect to the Oracle. We need to open ourselves and let come through us whatever shows itself, by doing that we create a connection to the ancestors and we invoke a healing space for whatever needs to be heard, felt and, by that, reconnected. This is why we call this ceremony «The Council of Women», for it is through the deep feminine state that we find our oracular council.
This oracular council is what the Deep Feminine is made for, for we are the Hollow Bone. From out of the Oracular council and the subsequent sacred space, can follow «the deep sharing», which is a heart led, safe space for sharing whatever there is to share. For we understand that «deep sharing» resembles «making space for what needs to be recognized and expressed», for this is what we think is actually the basis of true healing and reconnection to the Divine.

Ingemar Rohn – Ritual Circle Dances – Dances for the Joy of Life
Circle dance has been an elementary form of human expression for thousands of years and an integral part of their spiritual life and being.

Ingemar Rohn
For almost 40 years I have been studying the old Neolithic egalitarian, women-respecting cultures that lived in harmony with nature and all beings and worshipped the Great Mother in her countless aspects.
I am very familiar with the Minoan culture on Crete. Since the late 1990s I have been offering women’s trips to Crete together with Arunga Heiden, where dance, singing and visiting Minoan sites are part of our seminars.
Born in Romania myself, I also offer women’s trips there, including to the archaeological sites and museums of the Cucuteni and Gumelnita cultures.
The spirituality of the matriarchal cultures was firmly integrated into people’s everyday lives. There was no separation between politics and everyday life. People lived a ritualized life.
In the Minoan culture in particular, ritual dance was, among other things, the medium for contacting the Great Mother/Goddess, feeling her and asking for support.
Since 1996 I have been offering dance seminars in Heidelberg, Überlingen and other places and every time I am touched and delighted to feel connected to the community and the divine power in the dance in the great network.
(Ritual) circle dances – dances for the joy of life
The circle dance has been an elementary form of expression for people for thousands of years and an integral part of their spiritual life and being. In ritual dancing we integrate ourselves into cosmic processes, open our hearts and our senses to dialogue with the spiritual forces. In the connection to earth and sky, to ourselves, we immerse ourselves in the power of the circle.
We will dance (simple) dances from the Balkans, Greek, Romanian, our own choreographies, dances that awaken our joy of life and celebrate the abundance of summer…
Katharina Braun – Traum.Raum & Embody.Land
A society in transition dreams of a new future. By balancing and harmonizing the levels, we harmonize the worlds inside and outside.
I am Katharina Selina Braun, I balance between heaven and earth in presence: past and future. Over two years, during my Master’s in Indigenous Science and Peace Studies at the University for Peace, I was able to gain deep insights into lived indigenous spirituality, the painful loss of my own culture and the importance of healthy, vibrant, lived cultural coexistence. My journey took me along my matrilineal ancestral rivers across the land in which I was born. Since then, I have been weaving my path in dreams and awakening and supporting others in embarking on their own journey. The dream work that I was able to learn from my elder Apela Colorado moves and transforms deep personal issues as well as the issues of the group community. Since then, I have worked with her through dream spaces, regular dream circles and in preparation for ancestral and pilgrimage journeys. We are going into a new world. Shadow and light alternate in the rhythm of the moon and our being comes into a natural flow. Be part of the change for all life and learn to love your dreams.
Morning dream work to accompany the festival and the vision of the future
We meet every morning to share our dreams together. The room is ceremonially opened and the dreams present are recorded and recorded on a large piece of paper using glyphing – which used to be cave painting.
The process accompanies the festival and thus develops collectively and with the matriarchy themes. We dream together and through dreaming the reality of the unfolding festival is interwoven – a vision emerges. The vision links our potential, that of the matriarchy, the land and our ancestors, as well as the themes of the festival.
The dream vision becomes visible over time. It affects all festival participants, as well as the land itself – and our collective earth. Because we are dreaming our future anew – in the consciousness of a matriarchal community. An anchor to inner strength.
I learned this type of dream work from Apela Colorado in my studies of indigenous knowledge and peace research. With the dream work, she accompanied us in the process and guided us to our cultural roots. For years she has done dreamwork herself in Chartres, France, as she is of part Oneida and part Gaelic descent.

Voice Ceremony
For thousands of years, the female voice has been restricted and silenced. Like our sexuality, our voice is the key that connects us to our true power. It is magnificent, it is beautiful, it is wise and holds great spiritual expression. An expression that we have not allowed ourselves to express freely for far too many generations.
For all people, the voice is a ladder – a meeting point between spirit and matter. And for most of us, access to this gateway is limited by the partitions that life has taught us to erect.
Through our breathing, through exercises and some simple tools, we will learn to dissolve these barriers of shame, judgement and guilt and free the wings of the hidden voice, to love it again, to enjoy this free expression as individuals and as part of a group, and to join our voices in harmony.

The BELLA DONNA HOUSE – a feminist socio-cultural flagship project. The path from a vision to realization
At the end of the 90s, nine women in Bad Oldesloe founded the association BELLA DONNA – A House of Women e.V. with the aim of creating a house in which women would find space for self-determined development and experimentation. It was intended to be a visible sign of lived women’s politics and to bring capital into women’s hands.
For 21 years now, we women have been living our utopia with pride and with all the ups and downs in the association’s own BELLA DONNA HOUSE. We would like to share our enthusiasm, motivation and courage with you at the festival in order to perhaps inspire enthusiasm for imitation.

Deep time – uniting with ancestors, descendants and the world around us
An introduction to deep ecology – The Work That Reconnects by Joanna Macy
Most people are now experiencing the effects of patriarchy on all levels – whether through personal experiences or triggered by the media – a never-ending period of crises. Corona, wars, refugee flows, systematic destruction of nature, mass extinction of species, growing impoverishment – and all of this in the light of the climate crisis with increasing catastrophes.
How can I face all of this without going crazy?
Deep ecology not only helps to face these challenges with open eyes and hearts and to build resilience, but also supports us through community in finding our inner strength and acting.
With meditation, rituals and exercises we will move through the spiral with its 4 stations.

Reflexive discussion groups, perhaps meditation-like visualization of the role of men in matriarchal societies (several times, duration 1 hour):

- Their rather quiet, also somewhat humble participation in the everyday life of the community
Networking tools in the room for men (during the festival):
- Open sheet for men to write down their wishes for life, the world and for conversation with each other
- Open sheet for women to write down their topics and questions for and to the men present here (not to the male world in general)
- Open sheet to write down specific questions that you would like to discuss and explore together, and where you can write down your interest in them, with the option of being contacted via email
- Open sheet for practical information among men

Gertraud Klemm – The End of the Phallocene
Why shouldn’t matriarchal thinking contribute to solving global problems? It’s not humans who are destroying the earth – it’s patriarchy!

Gertraud Klemm
I am the author of novels, plays, guest commentaries and I comment on and discuss the state of women’s politics in newspapers, speeches or on podiums. I attended the course on modern matriarchy research with Heide Göttner Abendroth (including mystery festivals at the Hagia Academy). I am currently working on the political and social feasibility of matriarchal ways of life – in the form of discourse contributions, but also in narrative form.
The end of the Phallocene
In summer 25, my essay “The end of the Phallocene” will be published by Matthes & Seitz. In this essay, I ask myself why matriarchal thinking is not more common in discourse and why it is not allowed to contribute to global problem solving, because: It is not humans who are destroying the earth – it is the patriarchy! My premise: Matriarchies are too unknown, are misinterpreted and, at best, laughed at from a patriarchal perspective. The text is intended above all to encourage intellectuals and decision-makers to finally think outside the box (in the philosophical, political and spiritual sense) of patriarchy and to allow a new, matriarchal cosmology to flow into their thought processes. I will read from the volume and discuss it with the audience.

Goddesses – Why they did their own thing wildly, freely and shamelessly and what I would have liked to have learned from them earlier
Once upon a time, a long time ago, women lived like goddesses – wild, untamed, shameless and free from any rules. But then the patriarchy came and they were domesticated, the women and the goddesses. No matter how much yoga we do to relieve stress these days as multi-tasking career moms, something is not right. Only when you compare the patriarchal system with a matriarchal one do we understand that guilt, shame and modesty have been hammered into us women.

I first learned about energetic soap treatments in 1998. Then I came across an interview by Gabriele Johannsmann and Gabriele Fischer about the healing power of Palaeolithic goddess figures.
I felt for sure that women could reactivate their self-healing powers through these images of women. Later I received a gift in the form of a Venus of Willendorf as a herbal soap. Like a flash, I had the unifying idea of creating my own healing goddess soaps.
